Chapter 45 There are many things Bruce Wayne cannot do.
How did the other person know my whereabouts? Why would they want to help me? Is their apparent goodwill genuine?
Batman was filled with questions, but he knew that none of them could be answered, at least not now.
Until all the questions are answered, all he can do is patiently observe, wait, collect clues, and research information. There is no case that cannot be solved, and no mystery that cannot be unsolved.
Now, this enormous mystery is laughing at him.
"Relax, I meant no harm."
Knowing that Batman was probably making plans in his head, Zheng En quickly spoke up, trying to be friendly before the other man got to the Z in the alphabet, "Although I don't plan to be a hero like you, I don't want my house to explode one day while I'm just sitting here peacefully."
"Given that I'll most likely be staying in this city for a long time."
Jung Eun-chong extended his hand, "If you need anything, you can come to me for help. There's strength in numbers, right?"
He probably wouldn't trigger many missions on his own, but if Batman helped him, he could basically get involved in any event.
He might not even need to lift a finger; Batman might handle most of it himself, and the simulated points will be credited directly to his account.
Jung Eun had a good plan, but his suspicious behavior clearly aroused Batman's suspicion.
The other person retreated, disappearing into the dark corner of the room in an instant.
The balcony was just over there. Zheng En got off the sofa, took a few steps outside, leaned on the balcony railing and looked out. She could vaguely see a dark shadow flashing between the buildings.
Jung Eun sighed, "It's not so easy to cling to someone's coattails after all."
Whether it's the mentor Batman or the local Batman.
Batman didn't understand Jung Eun's regrets; he only felt that Jung Eun was, in some ways, just as perplexing as Klein, who had made the Scarecrow Man declaration to him.
The other party was neither acting out of duty like Gordon and others, nor out of hatred of evil or a desire for attention.
His actions were as if he saw a flower by the roadside, happened to have a bottle of water in his hand, and then watered it.
This behavior is out of step with Gotham City.
After his night patrol, Batman took the fingerprints and hair samples he had obtained from the apartment and entered them into the system, comparing them with the unfamiliar fingerprints he had obtained from the Batmobile that day.
"It really was him."
Even if Jung Eun reveals her identity, Batman will verify it again.
Alfred served him a hot drink. "Such a kind person is rare in Gotham, sir."
"Yes, that's why I need to find out his background."
Batman removed his mask, revealing a face that often appears on newspaper covers.
Bruce Wayne, the only son of Thomas Wayne and Martha Kane, is the heir to the Wayne Enterprises and estate, and a well-known billionaire and playboy.
When he was eight years old, he witnessed his parents die tragically in front of him. Since then, he has vowed to make the city a better place and to prevent innocent people like his parents from losing their lives.
Batman, who fights against evil and seeks fairness and justice in place of corrupt judicial organs, embodies his will by running in the dark.
To this end, he diligently studied various subjects, pursuing advanced degrees in biology, chemistry, criminal psychology, and languages. Afterward, he traveled the world, visiting numerous martial arts masters to learn from them.
After going through trials and tribulations, he returned to Gotham and quickly realized that ordinary crime fighting wouldn't work in Gotham.
The darkness of this city is deeply rooted, growing stronger with its development, inseparable from its very flesh and blood.
If Gotham were a giant ship sailing on the sea, its rudder would have long been destroyed.
Even if he became the most powerful person in the city and the captain of this giant ship, he could not change the course of the voyage.
The course was decided by everyone on board, and the will of the group would not be shaken by individual opinions. Therefore, the leader elected by the group had to compromise with the group.
He knew there were many things Bruce Wayne couldn't do.
And so Batman was born.
Through violence and fear, Batman can accomplish many things that Bruce Wayne could not.
For example, he could target Falcone's business, or infiltrate Arkham alone to find evidence.
If one could transform into darkness and plant fear deep in everyone's heart, perhaps one day this giant ship would be derailed.
His approach may not be perfect or the optimal solution; it may even be as futile as pouring water into a leaky fish tank. But for the little fish that survived because of him, that doesn't matter.
Bruce Wayne knew exactly what he was doing, and so did Alfred.
He brought the hot drink to Bruce, who glanced at the old man standing beside him and took the drink.
Seeing Bruce drink the hot cocoa he had prepared, Alfred sighed helplessly. "I think there might be another way to interpret my words, such as you could show a more friendly attitude."
Bruce ignored him, but the warm, sweet liquid made him frown. "Ah Fu, what I need is coffee."
"I don't think so."
Alfred watched Bruce type on the keyboard and enter new information into the computer. The time was displayed in the lower right corner of the screen: 4:52 a.m.
"Excuse my bluntness, but your sleep schedule isn't much better than some energetic teenagers."
Generally speaking, unless there are any unexpected situations, Bruce will wash up immediately after his night patrol to ensure that he can fall asleep as soon as possible and maintain sufficient energy for the next night patrol.
But recent events at Arkham Asylum have forced him to postpone his bedtime.
The crimes of the asylum director, Klein, were practically certain. After his escape, there was no suspense. The GCPD issued an arrest warrant throughout the city, and it was only a matter of time before he was caught.
But the crimes of his collaborator, Falcone, are not so easy to determine.
Carmine Falcone and his family have the money to hire the most eloquent lawyers to exonerate them, and Gotham's judges and prosecutors won't refuse the readily available cash.
Bruce understood these issues.
Even though the GCPD had compiled a complete chain of evidence and made ample preparations, and the Roman chief, who had ties to the Romans, was under intense media scrutiny, there was nothing they could do. However, the prosecutors were unwilling to file charges, rendering all their previous efforts futile.
Gordon and others were powerless to change this, and often the law played a rather limited role in Gotham.
And so, Batman appeared.
He had a very fulfilling evening.
After speaking with Jung Eun, he spent some time finding and persuading a prosecutor who was willing to stand in front of the judge's bench for this.
However, this prosecutor, who had a history of accepting bribes, did not receive the same friendly treatment as Jung Eun.
