Chapter 355 The Raven's Beak, Chocolate Flavor

"You're back?" Jonathan asked with a smile as he looked at the four who emerged from Rune's room. He had finished his farm work and happened to run into Martha when he returned. To give Clark and Lana some private space, he had taken Martha out for a meal.

Clark seemed preoccupied, so he only managed a weak smile. "Yes, we're back."

"Hello, Uncle. Hello, Aunt." Lana greeted Martha and Jonathan. Although she was injured in another world, her ability to regulate her emotions was quite amazing.

Martha, who was more sensitive to Clark's feelings, forced a smile, but inwardly she was puzzled. This reaction seemed off; it didn't seem like someone who had just spent time with Lana, but rather like Clark had done something to wrong her.

Could it be what I'm imagining?

Despite thinking this, Lana didn't seem forced; on the contrary, she appeared to be in a good mood. "Come on, let's eat first. We were sorry to bother you after finishing our farm work, so we went out for a meal." Martha took out the food she had specially brought. "Come and eat."

Most American restaurants, regardless of the circumstances, prefer to offer large portions at affordable prices, except for those that promote a healthy lifestyle. As a rural couple, even though Rune brought them a considerable income, Jonathan and Martha still preferred simple, high-calorie foods.

So don't expect them to bring back healthy foods like salads from outside.

This takeout order included a large grilled steak, beef, potato and carrot stew, pizza, and cherry custard pie—all relatively simple dishes that the Kents often ate when Rune couldn't cook.

Going to wash their hands together with four people was a bit chaotic, so Rune simply used a cleansing spell on the other three and himself.

"I thought you'd chant a spell or pull out a wand, but all you did was wave your hand?" Lana looked at her hands in surprise. After her adventure, she inevitably had some sweat and dirt on her body, but now it was almost invisible.

Although Rune cast a spell at the end of the adventure, she was in so much pain at the time that she didn't really notice.

The raven looked at the girl and explained, "There are many reasons why one can cast magic without chanting incantations. If it's simply about manipulating magical power, then naturally no incantation is needed—"

Lana's eyes widened as she interrupted Raven, "So that means, this was actually Rune using magic to remove the filth from my body?"

Her expression turned strange, as if Rune had touched her from head to toe with some kind of external organ. It was odd, even though she admired Rune's face—.

"No, you're overthinking it." Raven shook his head. "Such precise operations generally require incantations. The reason Rune doesn't need to chant incantations is purely because he possesses powerful magical talent and mental strength—..."

"Long-term training and experience accumulation are far more important than talent," Rune interjected.

Wands provide a stable output of magic, while wandless magic is more prone to errors. To paraphrase the original text, wandless spellcasting is like riding a bicycle with your hands off during an earthquake. Silent spellcasting goes without saying.

"Can I learn magic?"

Clark nudged Lana. "Hey! Didn't you say you didn't want superpowers? Why do you want to learn magic now?"

"Of course, it's so I don't have to do laundry or take showers!" Lana puffed out her chest, saying without a trace of guilt. "By the way, can magic cook?"

Rune looked at Clark, then at Lana, and finally nodded.

"Magic can indeed be used to cook."

In Harry Potter, there are even special pots for cooking, allowing you to cook your own meals. However, to make such a pot, you must first learn ancient runes and at least reach a level of proficiency before you can study alchemy.

As for the difficulty of alchemy—

It can only be said that even Rune had to put in a lot of mental and financial effort back then. Alchemy is a typical subject for the rich, requiring learners to not only master the theory but also have strong practical skills, which is even more grueling than studying medicine.

At least doctors use relatively inexpensive animals like frogs, rabbits, and mice to practice with, but alchemists often use magical materials that cost thousands of gold coins to practice with.

Of course, learning magic requires a crucial condition—talent. Rune carefully examined Lana's body and finally sighed.

"It's a pity, Lana, you don't have the talent to learn magic."

"No!" Lana feigned heartbreak, singing in an operatic voice, "I'll have to do all the laundry and cooking for the rest of my life!"

Her dramatic behavior made everyone laugh, even Clark, who felt isolated because Lana wanted to learn magic.

Although dinner was simple, it tasted great.

The grilled steak, served with mashed potatoes and gravy, is incredibly flavorful.

On the pizza, the sweet and sour tomato sauce blended perfectly with the rich mozzarella cheese, and the sausage slices were baked until the edges were slightly curled. The only downside was that it had been sitting for a while, so the crust wasn't crispy anymore.

The stewed beef is tender and flavorful, the carrots are sweet, the potatoes are soft and glutinous, and the red wine and spices in the soup completely elevate the dish.

Finally, the cherry pie with its ice cream-like texture filled Lana's second stomach, which she had created specifically for desserts.

After they finished eating, Martha subtly inquired about what had happened that night. Without much prompting, Clark confessed his mistake on his own.

Even though Rune had helped Lana reattach her right arm, and Lana had repeatedly explained that her right hand was now fully functional and didn't even have a scar, Martha still decided to apologize to Lana's aunt the next day.

"Clark, I know you're upset too, so I won't say much more. Now I hope you can remember this lesson," Jonathan said, his face also heavy. He hadn't expected this to happen.

"I understand." Clark didn't argue, because he knew it was his fault.

Martha nodded. "Rune won't always be by your side; he can't always protect you and your friends. And not everyone is as understanding as Lana."

Clark took these words to heart. He also grew after this incident. Steve had only taught him how to be a superhero, but this incident taught him how to protect others.

Finally, Jonathan and Clark took Lana home together.

Normally, Clark would find an excuse to take Lana home alone, but this time, he not only brought the puppet that Rune had given him, but also asked his father to accompany him.

As Rune went into his room to continue his research on magic, Raven emerged from the portal.

"Want some candy?" She held up a piece of dark chocolate.

Rune looked at it and suddenly realized, "No wonder you tasted chocolate in your mouth."
